You may have noticed that I didn't release an alpha of Pixel Vision 8 v0.9.0 last month. That's because I felt it was best to continue to get everything cleaned up and release it when it's ready. That being said, I am still hard at work on PV8, and I've got two new tools to share with you. The first is a tool to edit fonts.
The new Font Tool allows you to edit any font.png file in your game folder. There is a simple 1-bit pixel editor as well as a way to quickly select a font's character, and preview the font in a sentence. You can also clear a character, and any missing characters will show up in the preview.
The second tool, and probably the most important one, is the new Chip Tool.
@CastPixel and I have been planning this tool for a very long time. At the core of Pixel Vision 8, is the concept of being able to customize the system specs to make your Fantasy Console. This is the feature that sets PV8 apart from the competition. While other Fantasy Consoles allow you to tweak a few settings here and there, PV8's new Chip Editor offers you complete control over every property of the underlying engine's chips. To make things easier, we've added pre-defined templates from famous 8-bit consoles.
The tool supports drag and drops to quickly swap out different chips and build your own custom system.
I'm getting closer to having a stable release build. All of the tools are in, and except for the drawing functionality in the Tilemap Tool, everything is working. I have a list of about 30+ bugs I've been tracking that I'd also like to tackle before I release plus a few other miscellaneous tasks. I have some time off coming up over the holidays which will allow me to focus on PV8 a little more to get in your hands as soon as possible!
